Statement made on behalf of the Security Council, at the 3859th meeting, 6 Mar. 1998, in connection with prior consultations held among Council members on the item entitled "The situation in Croatia" / President, Security Council

Expresses concern at the Croatia's lack of compliance with obligations assumed under the Basic Agreement on the Region of Eastern Slovania, Baranja and Western Sirmium, and about the increasing harrassment and intimidation of the local Serb community in the region; calls upon the Government publicly to demonstrate its commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the Basic Agreement and to take steps to ensure safety, security and rights of all Croatian citizens; also calls on the Croatian Government to establish clear procedurs for the documentation of refugees from Croatia, to issue a plan for equitable two-way return, implement its legislation on amnesty, and pass equitable property and tenancy rights.
