Transmits letter dated 29 Sept. 1997 from the President of Cyprus in response to letter from Turkey dated 19 Sept. 1997 (A/52/383-S/1997/732) concerning decision of the Government of Cyprus to purchase the S-300 missile system; restates that the missiles in question are purely defensive weapons, the technical characteristics of which give no reason to dispute their defensive nature.
