Statement made on behalf of the Security Council, at the 3799th meeting, 11 July 1997, in connection with prior consultations held among Council members on the item entitled "The situation in Cambodia"; expresses concern at recent developments in Cambodia, including violence; calls for an immediate end to the fighting; urges the parties to resolve their differences through peaceful means and political dialogue and in accordance with the spirit of national reconciliation; reminds the Cambodian Government of its public undertaking that free and fair legislative elections would be held in May 1998 and stresses the importance of this electoral process; and expresses support for all efforts to promote dialogue among the parties / President, Security Council.
