Statement made on behalf of the Security Council, at the 3781st meeting, 27 May 1997, in connection with prior consultations held among Council members on the item entitiled "The situation in Sierra Leone"; expresses deep concern about the military coup d'état in Sierra Leone; calls for an immediate restoration of constitutional order; underlines the imperative necessity of implementing the Abidjan Agreement which continues to serve as a viable framework for peace, stability and reconciliation; recalls the obligations of all concerned to ensure the protection of UN and other international personnel and calls for an end to the looting of premises and equipment belonging to UN and international aid agencies / President, Security Council.
