Requests the management of DPI to review its publications and proposals for them to ensure that all publications fulfil an identifiable need, do not duplicate other publications; notes the Secretary-General's report regarding the review of major publications of DPI; requests the Secretary-General to conduct a review of existing publications produced by DPI in the sphere of development; recalls the Secretary-General's report on results of the trial of integrating UN information centres with field offices of the UN system and requests him to continue the integration exercise; notes the Secretary-General's report on allocation of resources to UN information centres in 1995, and calls upon him to continue to study ways and means to effect equitable disbursement of available resources to all UN information centres; requests the Secretary-General to conduct an evaluation through the services of an independent consultant, of the functioning of the Dag Hammarskjold Library; encourages the Secretary-General to explore ways and means to improve access of UN radio to airwaves worldwide; encourages DPI to take full advantage of recent developments in information technologies in order to improve dissemination of information on UN; requests DPI to ensure the greatest possible access to UN guided tours, to ensure that displays in public areas are kept as informative, up to date and relevant as possible; invites Member States to submit to the Secretary-General by 15 Mar. 1997 their suggestions on means of furthering development of communication infrastructures in developing countries; decides that the 19th session of the Committee on Information should last no more than 10 days.
