Statement made on behalf of the Security Council, at the 3678th meeting, 3 July 1996, in connection with prior consultations held among Council members on the item entitled "The situation in Croatia"; expresses its readiness to consider favourably the extension of the mandate of UN military observers in the UN Transitional Administration for Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Sirmium (UNTAES); welcomes efforts to begin the return of displaced persons and refugees to their homes; expresses concern at the worsening economic situation and urges the Government of Croatia to cooperate closely with UNTAES to identify and provide funding for local administration and public services / President, Security Council.
