Programme of activities for the International Decade of the World's Indigenous People : resolution / adopted by the General Assembly.

Decides that the programme of activities may be reviewed and updated throughout the Decade and that at the mid-point of the Decade ECOSOC and the General Assembly should review the results of the activities to identify obstacles to the achievement of the goals of the Decade and to recommend solutions; recommends that the Commission on Human Rights consider the convening of a 2nd workshop on the possible establishment of a permanent forum for indigenous people; recommends that special attention be given to improving the extent and effectiveness of the participation of indigenous people in planning and implementing the activities for the Decade; requests UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to promote the objectives of the Decade; requests the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights to establish a unit within the Centre for Human Rights of the Secretariat, including indigenous persons, to support its activities related to indigenous people; emphasizes the important role of international cooperation in promoting the goals and activities of the Decade and the rights, well-being and sustainable development of indigenous people.
