Decides that the UN Council for Namibia shall: (a) continue to formulate policies of assistance to Namibians and co-ordinate assistance for Namibia provided by the specialized agencies and other organizations and institutions of the UN system; (b) continue to act as trustee of the UN Fund for Namibia and administer and manage the Fund; (c) continue to provide broad guidelines and formulate principles and policies for the UN Institute for Namibia; (d) continue to co-ordinate, plan and direct the Nationhood Programme for Namibia, in consultation with SWAPO, to consolidate all measures of assistance by the specialized agencies and other organizations and institutions of the UN system into a comprehensive assistance programme; decides that the UN Fund for Namibia shall be the primary source of development assistance by Namibians; decides to allocate as a temporary measure to the UN Fund for Namibia the sum of $1.5 million from the regular budget of the UN for 1989; requests the UN Council for Namibia to intensify its field attachment programme, enabling Namibians trained under various programmes to gain practical on-the-job experience in Governments and institutions in diverse countries, particularly in Africa; decides that Namibians shall continue to be eligible for assistance through the UN Educational and Training Programme for Southern Africa and the UN Trust Fund for South Africa; requests the UN Council for Namibia to finalize and publish, at an early date, a demographic study of the Namibian population.
