Endorses the declaration of support for the multilateralization of the Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, adopted by the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 9th UN Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, held at San Jose, Costa Rica, 7-11 Mar. 1994; reiterates its request to the Secretary-General to provide, within the overall appropriations of the programme budget, human and financial resources for the UN crime prevention and criminal justice programme in order to develop the institutional capacity of the programme; welcomes the provision of funds from the regular budget for a 2nd Interregional Adviser post and strongly recommends that that post be retained in the future; invites Member States to include projects in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice as part of their priority areas for development and urges UNDP and other funding agencies to provide financial support for the execution of relevant projects as a contribution to sustainable development.
