Recommendations on tourism statistics

This publication contains new recommendations on tourism statistics prepared by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in line with the resolution adopted by the Ottawa Conference on Travel and Tourism Statistics held in 1991. Part I sets out concepts and definitions of tourism categories, basic tourism units as well as standard classifications of tourism demand concerning transport, duration of trip, accommodation and so on. Included also are definitions and classifications of tourism expenditure, receipts and payments. Part II presents Standard International Classifications of Tourism Activities (SICTA) as a provisional classification for use by countries to better understand the role of tourism in domestic and world economies.
