Financing of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus

GEN

Decides to appropriate to the Special Account for the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus an amount of US$45,630,927 gross for the maintenance of the Force for the period from 1 July 1999-30 June 2000, inclusive of an amount of $2,270,759 for the support account for peacekeeping operations, and the amount of $445,268 for the UN Logistics Base in Brindisi, Italy; decides also, taking into consideration the funding through voluntary contributions of one third of the cost of the Force, equivalent to $14,630,810, by the Government of Cyprus and the annual pledge of $6.5 million from the Government of Greece, to apportion among Member States the amount of $24,500,117 gross, for the period from 1 July 1999-30 June 2000, at a monthly rate of $2,041,676 gross; decides further that there shall be set off against the apportionment among Member States, their respective share in the Tax Equalization Fund of the estimated staff assessment income of $1,738,500 approved for the Force for the period from 1 July-30 June 2000; decides that, for Member States that have fulfilled their financial obligations to the Force, there shall be set off against the apportionment, their respective share of the unencumbered balance of $178,500 gross in respect of the period ending 30 June 1998; decides also that, for Member States that have not fulfilled their financial obligations to the Force, their share of the unencumbered balance of $178,500 gross in respect of the period ending 30 June 1998 shall be set off against their outstanding obligations; decides further to continue to maintain as separate the account established for the period prior to 16 June 1993 for the Force, invites Member States to make voluntary contributions to that account, and requests the Secretary-General to continue his efforts in appealing for voluntary contributions to the account.
