This Handbook supersedes the Handbook of Vital Statistics Methods published by the United Nations in 1955. It provides up-to-date guidance to countries to implement international recommendations adopted by the United Nations on vital statistics systems. Volume I addresses issues involved in running comprehensive civil registration and vital statistics systems and their coordination. Volume II, published in 1985, reviews national practices in civil registration and vital statistics systems and methods.
