Резюме
Former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Dr. Hans Blix (Sweden, 1928 – ) started first as a member of Sweden's delegation to the United Nations General Assembly, serving from 1961 to 1981. During his tenure, he was Head of Department at Sweden's Foreign Ministry, rising in 1976 to the post of Under-Secretary of the State, in charge of international development cooperation. He was then appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs in October 1978. Dr. Blix served as Director General of IAEA from 1981 to 2000, where he dealt with the heated issue of the possibility of nuclear weapon development in Iraq. Before retiring in June 2003, Dr. Blix served as the Executive Chairman of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC), which had the task of searching for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. This interview was conducted on 11 May 2000, when he still held that title, and touches upon the role he played as Director General of IAEA, the IAEA inspections in Iraq under Security Council resolution 687 (S/RES/687(1991)) and his transition to the Executive Chairman of UNMOVIC.
